Could Art Change the World? Inside Out?

INSIDE OUT: a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. A collaboration between the artist JR, the TED Prize and you!

Can Art really change the world? Sure. Why not? Being an artist myself – I’d like to think it does. Being a viewer – I’ll admit, art has stirred my emotions and influenced me in a myriad of ways. When you witness what the world of advertising has done, how could you think art wouldn’t do the same? It has a voice of it’s own, sometimes stemming from the freedom of your very own interpretation. Sometimes it’s so in your face and packed with a punch and other times it bears silence, with subtle hints you pick up every time you look at it. Maybe you’ve been confused while looking at a piece before? – Ahhhh, the wheels of your brain start turning. Change is happening, yes?

Hey! Here’s a fun idea:

Next time you look at a piece of art,

write down what it made you think and how it made you feel.

I have to say, JR’s presentation on TED really got my creative juices flowing. (As do most of the presentations I see on TED.) Probably, because I’d like to travel the world while creating art, myself. And being involved in a positive global art project is pretty dope too. JR has a wonderful way of speaking, or maybe I’m just taken by his lovely French Accent? Regardless, this man and the rest of the team on this project (including Ted Prize) are doing something amazing, on a grand scale. The best thing is, everyone in the world can participate!

Whether you are an artist or not, I’m sure this will appeal to you (or at least someone you know).

What do you think? Are you game?

Please visit, and let’s do something awesome TOGETHER!

I think I finally picked out what image I’m going to use. Get ready, Charlotte, NC. The streets will never be the same! [giggles] I’d love to have us come together as a community and do this with one another. Let me know if you are interested and we’ll set a date(s).
